Landfill Harmonic
Music can transform society. Landfill Harmonic Orchestra is a great example of how one simple idea can transform lives and provide an opportunity to transcend one's situation in life. A music teacher helps children living by a Paraguay landfill site to reach their dreams with instruments made from rubbish.

A) Watch the video about this amazing orchestra on the right.
B) Design & create your own instrument from recycled materials that you can find from your own home. When you are done, please take a picture of your design and instrument and e-mail them to me. |

Music is all about creativity. This means anything you see around you can be your new instrument. This week I would like you to use a cup as your instrument and learn how to sing and play this popular cup song.

Music can be divided into different genres/styles in many different ways such as popular music and art music or jazz and classical etc. As a band, we would like to explore 10 different styles of music this week by listening to this fun tune, Baby Shark. Choose another instrument (which you did not choose last week) from the guide and explore/read about it. Learn about the origins, the structure, and the basic skills/techniques of the instrument of your 2nd choice. If you feel overwhelmed with the amount of reading you have to do, remember that you can also watch the video clips that I posted in the Introduction to Band site.

The deadline for our first virtual talent show is quickly approaching. Please submit your video by Friday, May 22, 2020.

Every evening at 7:00pm, challenge yourself to step outside and make some music: sing a song, play an instrument, bang a rhythm on a pot or pan – ANYTHING! When you finish your song, shout “thank you!” to all the people who are working to keep us all safe, healthy and fed during this time. 2.
