Landfill Harmonic
Music can transform society. Landfill Harmonic Orchestra is a great example of how one simple idea can transform lives and provide an opportunity to transcend one's situation in life. A music teacher helps children living by a Paraguay landfill site to reach their dreams with instruments made from rubbish.

A) Watch the video about this amazing orchestra on the right. B) Design & create your own instrument from recycled materials that you can find from your own home. When you are done, please take a picture of your design and instrument and e-mail them to me. |

1. Cup Song #2: Water Xylophone
This week, we are going to make our own instrument called Water Xylophone. All you need is four glasses (or Wine glasses/jars) and a wooden spoon (or something you can hit the glasses with)!

This week, we are going to make our own instrument called Water Xylophone. All you need is four glasses (or Wine glasses/jars) and a wooden spoon (or something you can hit the glasses with)!
- Pour the first one nearly full, and then pour each of the rest of them slightly less than the one before.
- Watch the video below and try to play "Mary Had a Little Lamb".
- Note: You can "tune" your glass if you like by experimenting with adding more or less water to each one until you get the sound you want.
- CHALLENGE: You can use more glasses to add more notes to play "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star"

Click the activity # 6, Recorder Composition tool under the menu, Recorder Introduction & Tools.
In this activity, you will be writing your own song (short melody) using only three notes, B, A, and G. Once you complete your composition, you can click the PLAY button on top to hear the melody you wrote OR click the RESET button to start a new song.
* Challenge: Teach yourself how to play your own song with the recorder.

Every evening at 7:00pm, challenge yourself to step outside and make some music: sing a song, play an instrument, bang a rhythm on a pot or pan – ANYTHING! When you finish your song, shout “thank you!” to all the people who are working to keep us all safe, healthy and fed during this time. 2.
